BT Birmingham - 3 Snowhill
RMF were delighted to have been instructed as the sole raised flooring contractor on the refurbishment of 3 Snowhill Birmingham. RMF were initially instructed by the contractor for levels 1-9 where we installed our new RMF medium grade raised access flooring. We also installed our RMF Eco range for the lobby areas. Following this installation BT decided to take levels 10-17 for their new Birmingham office hub.
The new offices come under the five year ‘Better Workplace Programme’, first announced in 2018, BT will consolidate its footprint of more than 300 locations to around 30. The company has already announced several other future locations including Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol. It will also move from its current headquarters in London at St Paul’s to a new 320,000 square foot, 18-storey building near Aldgate East Station next year.
BT colleagues based at Three Snowhill will include those from its existing sites in Birmingham and the wider region. The company will also recruit a number of new roles into Three Snowhill over the next year.
Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “I am delighted that a firm of BT’s size and stature is making this move, especially at such a challenging time for the regional economy. It shows there is still a future for major city centre office blocks despite the coronavirus pandemic, and it is a real vote of confidence in the West Midlands economy.
“I look forward to welcoming the first tranche of BT’s employees in the New Year and seeing that number grow throughout the year as our city centres spring back to life.”
RMF’s works spanned over two phases of the project with the initial phase running from July 2020 – December 2020 with our teams installing Ground Floor and floors 10-15 plus remedial works. All of phase one was completed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Phase 2 of the works commenced in January 2021 and is just nearing completion at present (June 2021). Phase 2 spans floors 10-15 remedial work and a full install on floors 16 and 17.
Due to a tight programme and a busy city centre location we had to work closely with the main contractor to co-ordinate a series of time critical deliveries to pre-load materials at site. Many of the deliveries had to be co-ordinated out of hours due to access to lifts being required consistently during main site hours.
RMF installed over 17,000 m2 of our RMF eco range onto this project supporting BT with both a significant cost and carbon saving. At present this is RMF’s largest Eco range installation to date with a growing pipeline of Eco range projects this won’t remain the case for long though!
As you can see from some of the below images the building looks set to be a truly impressive location for BT and an asset to Birmingham attracting additional talent and investment.
