Seeing green with Eco!

RMF were commissioned by a fit out contractor acting on behalf of Specsavers to complete the installation of the raised flooring required at their new distribution centre in Kidderminster. Located on the site of Stourpoint Five, it consolidated and expanded operations while doubling capacity.

Around 400 staff have been employed at the new site, with 200 more jobs expected to be created over the next five years.

Construction on the site took 11 months and was completed in November 2018 and houses their International Glazing Services (IGS) and Lens Online operations.

IGS glazes frames with prescription lenses for Specsavers stores in Northern European countries, while Lens Online stocks and distributes lenses and contact lenses to stores in the UK and Ireland. It also executes the LensMail contact lens delivery scheme direct to patients.

RMF’s scope of works included:

LOL Building Ground Floor – 145 m2 of RMF Eco Range

LOL Building Ground Floor Comms Room – 20 m2 of heavy grade anti-static vinyl tile

LOL Building First Floor – 275 m2 of RMF Eco Range

IGS Building Ground Floor – 270 m2 of RMF Eco Range

IGS Building Ground Floor Comms Room – 20 m2 of heavy grade anti-static vinyl

IGS Building First Floor – 320 m2 of RMF Eco Range

Given that the project was a CAT-B fit out with floor finishes and a full interior design plan already finalised the client opted to use the RMF Eco range for both a cost and environmental saving. The client also had the peace of mind that the RMF comes cleaned, randomly tested and with a 25 year warranty installed onto an all new steel pedestal under structure.

The RMF Eco range was in perfect harmony with the sustainable focus of the premises as the new facility has solar and thermal power energy and a self-harvesting water farm, together with two canteens, a games area and ergonomic work stations.
